9)Do you believe that titles or a voiceover lead trailers more effectively, why?

It was a mixed bag in deciding whether titles or a voiceover lead the trailer more effectively, titles were said to be easier to follow, shorter and sharper, consequently more engaging especially when meeting the time of the music used.

Those who felt a voiceover was more effective did so because they believed that audio is generally more powerful and dramatic.

One person said that both titles and a voiceover should be used in order to cater for both the deaf and blind audience- a valid point in today's society.

Primary Research- facebook group

In an interactive society I believe a questionnaire simply is not enough to find out audience reactions to different mediums, therefore I will create a facebook group where I will ask members of my media class to watch three trailers and tell me which they believe to be most effective and why.

This research will help me to take an understanding into the kind of style which works the best which I can then adapt to and in order to make an effective trailer.

Follow the link to view the facebook group:

Unfortunately this facebook group proved unsuccesful, I recieved no feedback from those invited to the group, my idea failed, proving the questionnaire to be of the most help.

Primary Research- questionnaire

In order to find out what it is my target audience feel is most effective within a trailer and what it is they want to see I deemed it necessary to create a questionnaire.

Below is my questionnaire:

Male

9)Do you believe that titles or a voiceover lead trailers more effectively, why?

I will analyse my findings after having at least 50 questionnaires completed to find out more information into what it is the audience want to see within a trailer.

Narrative ideas- Brainstorm

Broader Media Culture

07/09/09
Monday’s lesson consisted of looking deeper into aspects of genre in order to make decisions in applying subversions to each of our production pieces.

It became apparent that “stylistic conventions” such as cinematography, lighting and narrative can all effect the subversions of common conventions typically associated with different mediums.

After watching a programme on the rules of film noir I was inspired in many different ways as well as being educated into the different types of conventions which are seen within this film genre. Matthew Sweet gives us an overview into the typical
conventions, “the male gaze” the male view of a character through the camera, usually focuses on the legs upwards.

The programme also showed me that ones narrative should reflect the social/historical context of the present, as well as showing that a broader media culture is influenced by literary texts.

During the production of my medium I must take into consideration what is influencing my work, the answer leading me to the social/historical aspects of the present.

Further into the lesson I came to the idea of a basic plot line for my film in which I will be creating a promotional trailer for. Which lead me on to storyboarding and realising that I needed more inspiration therefore more research was necessary.
